Course Selection & Meetings: Here’s What You Need To Know.
Course selection meetings start today! These are some things to know and keep in mind to make sure you have the best chance of getting the classes on your form.
Meetings
Meetings times are posted at the top of the main stairs and outside student services for each guidance counselor. Meetings will take place throughout the day this week and into next week from 2/27-3/11. It is essential to attend your meeting in order to make any changes to your already submitted course selection and confirm the classes selected. At this time you should inform your guidance counselor of any classes that you need to graduate that you have not already taken so you can get priority seating. Individuals who submitted their forms early do not get priority class selection.
Class placement is random and it is not guaranteed you will get a spot in a class requested. During the add/drop period at the beginning of next year (typically about the first 2 weeks) you can request to change a class. Be aware that spots are limited per block and changing a core subject class typically requires rearrangement of your whole schedule and is ill-advised. It is not advised that you wait, if you want to change you should inform your guidance counselor early on in the year.
New Classes & Requirements
Next year (24-25) several new elective classes have been added to the Program of Studies, including a whole new selection under the Math Department such as Personal Finance and Performing Arts and World Language also have new additions. The full 2024-25 Program of Studies can be found here.
Graduation requirements remain the same at:
4 years Math, English
3 year Science (Lab), History
2 year World Language
4 half year Physical Education
1 half year Fine/Performing Arts
Teachers
Year over year classes are taught usually by the same teacher. You can reference the charts below to see what the core subject teachers are teaching this year in order to get a general idea of who you might have next year. Please note depending on interest and sign ups some classes may run only one block, multiple blocks or not run at all. The chart may not be accurate and does not differentiate between CP and accelerated classes.*
Schedule Release
Preliminary schedules are released something during May for current students and mid August for incoming Freshmen. These preliminary schedules often have gaps due to no classes being avalible, a meeting with your counselor is required to rectify any discrepancies.
